After a three-year hiatus due to COVID-19, J. Cole’s Dreamville Festival is returning to Raleigh, North Carolina this weekend. But before the party starts, the Dreamville family has a surprise up their sleeve.
Late Wednesday (March 30), Cole World and his collective of fellow dreamers announced the very first Dreamville Gangsta Grillz mixtape hosted by DJ Drama. Titled D-Day: A Gangsta Grillz Mixtape, the surprise project is set to drop on Thursday (March 31) at 7 p.m. ET / 4 p.m. PT.

“Smoke n-gga !!!!!!!!!!!!” J. Cole wrote on Instagram while sharing a grainy, 25-second trailer narrated by the famed Atlanta-via-Philadelphia DJ and featuring cameos from himself, JID, Ari Lennox, EarthGang, Bas, Cozz, Lute and Omen.

“Alright, so check it out,” the venerable Drama declares in the clip. “You n-ggas over here talking ’bout festivals?… I’m thinking more like invasions!… You gon’ stop playing on Dreamville’s top!… Like n-ggas don’t run this!”

D-Day: A Gangsta Grillz Mixtape will provide the Dreamville crew with more ammo just in time for their Dreamville Festival sets. JID, EarthGang, Lute are set to perform on Saturday (April 2), while Ari Lennox, Bas, Cozz and Omen will hit the stage on Sunday (April 3). J. Cole closes things out with a headlining performance on Sunday night.

DJ Drama is also on the bill with a Gangsta Grillz special featuring three of his most famous mixtape collaborators: Lil Wayne, Jeezy and T.I. Rounding out the Dorothea Dix Park lineup is Lil Baby, Moneybagg Yo, Wiz Khalifa, Fivio Foreign, Wale, Ja Rule, Ashanti, T-Pain, Morray, WizKid and more.

Metro Boomin has returned in full force with his sophomore studio album, Heroes & Villains.

The celebrated producer’s follow-up to Not All Heroes Wear Capes—his star-studded, chart-topping 2018 release—features a who’s who list of collaborators like The Weeknd, ASAP Rocky, and the late Takeoff. 21 Savage, Travis Scott, and Future all boast four appearances; Don Toliver shows up three times, and Young Thug twice. Also included on the 15-song project are Gunna, Chris Brown, Young Nudy, John Legend, and Mustafa the Poet.

Metro took a creative approach in announcing their involvement, sharing comic book-style illustrations while playing up the “heroes and villains” theme by asking fans, “Which side do you think he’s on?”

Metro Boomin teased fans on what was to come this week with an action-packed short film. Directed by Gibson Hazard and co-written by Hazard and Van Courtney, the near-six-minute clip stars Metro alongside Young Thug, Gunna, LaKeith Stanfield, and the legend Morgan Freeman, who previously worked with Metro by narrating his 21 Savage collaborative album Savage Mode II.
